Useful explosives in construction

Posted on | May 13, 2010 | No Comments

The most useful types of explosives are safe to handle as long as they are handled properly. For instance, Nitroglycerin was the first type of dynamite and it was very unstable. This made it hard to be safely used, miners would have to carry this stuff over rough roads with no type of cushion or shocks on the wheels. Steel banded wooden wheels were used on wagons to pull nitroglycerin which was very dangerous work. So, Alfred Nobel figured out how to make solid nitroglycerin which is less sensitive to shock as liquid nitroglycerin. This new solid nitroglycerin could now be taken almost anywhere safely. Mt. Rushmore had almost 40% of the stone removed with solid nitroglycerin “Dynamite”. Dynamite helped build America from mine shafts to making Niagra Falls water fall in a more even way. Now another usful item is called a hilti gun, The Hilti Gun uses gun powder to accelerate nails to such a high velocity that the nail punches through concrete and steel and remains lodged in place now able to hold alot of weight or hold boards in place. Anyone who has built houses knows that a hilti gun makes your life alot easier. So, not all explosives are made to destroy some have been used and refined to assist in the building proces. This works in the same concept as a potato cannon which are fun  to build and give great experience in enginering and safe exlosives. We all know that it is easier to destroy something than destroying somthing. I would much rather build.

The trick with explosives

Posted on | May 1, 2010 | No Comments

The trick involved with explosives is how to make them safe and useful. As you probably already know there are explosives of varying sizes in use all around us if you know where to look. The most useful and common type of explosions that are within a foot or less of every day is right under the hood of our car. All diesel and unleaded vehicles produce thousands of explosives every minute. This concept was first thought up with steam which is just as powerful as a combustion engine under the right conditions. Also, pneumatic thermostats can be considered a minuscule explosive. These types of explosives are vastly applicable and contain zero danger. The more powerful explosives such as almost anything that uses a chemical reaction are meant only to destroy. This is useful in its own way however it is more of a challenge to build something then destroy it. Another type of explosion is the one of the firearm. This can be safe as long as you use proper safety precautions.

Using the same method as the firearm I built a couple of toys. Since high pressure isn’t created in a firearm unless the barrel is obstructed the same concept applies to the toys. However no matter how you look at it anything that fires a projectile of any substance has the potential to be dangerous and even deadly if not handled properly. One of the safer and more fun items to build would be a potato gun. These are so much fun when handled in a safe manner and will provide hours of fun and a deeper understanding as to how explosives are used and handled safely. Especially if you build it yourself.

Real Explosives

Posted on | April 17, 2010 | No Comments

Real explosives are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. To the average person, most types of explosives are a suicide mission. I know! I have almost killed myself a few times! The second you don’t respect explosive material,  they can maim or possibly kill you. However, explosives can be very useful as they can take down buildings in seconds, safely destroy unstable ordnance, remove unwanted concrete, dirt, tree stumps, and water flow restrictions like natural damns.

I know it is every little boys dream to blow stuff  up but I could not in good conscience teach anyone how to build powerful explosives like thermite or chloride nitrates. These are extremely unstable and would kill anyone who didn’t know how to handle them. The next best thing is a few cool science experiments I could teach you Like a potato cannon. I know…  I know…. a Potato Cannon sounds boring. Well, try a different type of accelerant. You migt consider using regular lighter fluid or calcium carbide. Calcium Carbide is used in many welding applications and is available in just about any welding supply shop. When Calcium Carbide mixes with water it makes a fuel that is close to the fuel in cutting torches. This fuel burns extremely hot and fast but is not any more dangerous than using lighter fluid even though your velocity will be incresed by at least 40%. Only use about a teaspoon of the powder and mix it in the chamber of the potato cannon, load your potato and fire just like any other potato cannon. The reason why this is much safer than any other explosive is becouse the fuel will not burst your barrel if you overload it then it will just be a waste of fuel.  So, this is very powerful but also relatively safe so I hope you enjoy.

Have fun and stay safe!!!!

It was the day of Alfred’s birthday, my son Peter’s friend. Alfred had come to the drawing class and distributed sweets to all of them. Alfred received so many gifts from his friends, but the best one was what the teacher presented, a potato gun! When my son, Peter saw that he was amazed and liked it very much, all of Alfred’s friends loved it so much and they immediately started playing with it. When Peter reached home, he immediately told me that he also wanted potato guns to play with and I assured him that I would buy them for him.

Later when I went to the store to purchase potato guns, I found them to be very expensive and I came back home without purchasing them. My son started crying saying that he wanted to play with potato gun. Then one of my friends told me to browse the internet and when I did so, I found so many details potato cannon and how to make potato guns on your own. Seeing that, I bought the necessary materials and then within a week or so I made potato cannon for my son and he was satisfied and thanked me for that.

Safety measures to be followed when handling fireworks

Posted on | September 8, 2009 | No Comments

I would say that fireworks are certainly great fun to play, but they are the most dangerous things that even a slightest thing goes wrong the whole place goes topsy-turvy and the fun filled event also ends there. So, the most key feature when dealing with fireworks would be to maintain certain safety codes. When handling fireworks you should make sure that children are updated on firework safety and they have clearly understood everything. Given below are some safety measures to be followed when handling fireworks.

• Fireworks that are marked BS 7114 is the most ideal choice of fireworks.

• Children should be accompanied by adults when handling fireworks.

• Avoid alcohol when handling fireworks.

• Avoid going near a firework that is lit as it could explode.

• Light the firework at arm’s length and care should be taken to stand back.

• Care should be taken to follow the instructions given in each pack of firework.

• When lighting sparkles, do it one at a time and children under five years of age are not supposed to light fireworks.

• Always keep pets in a closed room when handling fireworks.

These are simple set of instructions, if followed judiciously you would have lots of fun on bonfire night.

Cannons to shoot potatoes

Posted on | August 16, 2009 | No Comments

Last month, I rented a video of an old movie and there was a war going on in it and the soldiers used cannons to blast others off their feet. I found this very fascinating and I really wanted a cannon for myself. I asked my friend about it and he told me that I couldn’t get the same kind of cannons but I could get potato cannons instead, if I wanted it so badly. I could do it with any cannon and I decided to buy it. I went to the store and when I enquired about the price, I was really surprised. It was just too costly and I really didn’t have the mind to buy something that was too costly on a whim.

When I told my friend about it, he told me that he had a quick solution and asked me to visit this website. I was really glad that I visited this website because it had details to make everything from potato cannon to potato guns and all other potato related weapons. I got the necessary details and started right away and was really happy that I got what I wanted and I didn’t have to spend a lot on it.

Make your own crossbows and enjoy yourself

My birthday was fast approaching and I was expecting my father to present something very nice and which I liked. On my last birthday, he gave me a pencil box as a gift and I was not very happy with it, but I never told my father, but I did tell him that I wanted something special for my birthday. I was thinking how happy I would be if I could get a crossbow as a present because Paul had crossbows of his own and I used to play it with him, but I never had one for myself, and I did want one very badly and I never told my father about it.

My dad really surprised me on my birthday and I was extremely thrilled seeing the wonderful gift because my father gifted me five crossbows. I asked him how he got them. Then my father told me that he heard me telling to Paul that he would like one of his own. My father then told me that he was browsing one day and saw the site on plans to make a crossbow and made them for me as he knew I would love them a lot. I was very happy and told my father that he was the best father in the world. This incident that happened a few years ago is still fresh in memory.

Tips on safe use of fireworks

Fireworks are fun, but those explosives should be handled very carefully and if children are playing with them, it should be only under adult supervision. One should always read the instructions on how to use the different fireworks. Always keep water and sand nearby in case some untoward events happen. Another thing one should remember is to always light fireworks outside the house and never inside the house. One should take care to light only one firework at a time and should never light two of them at the same time. You should not make fireworks on your own as it may be hazardous.

Always take care to store fireworks in a cool place. When lighting fireworks, care should be taken to wear outfits that are loose and care should be taken to tie your hair up and never let it loose as there is a chance that it might catch fire, you never know! When using sparklers, always submerge them in sand as it can be very hot and if anyone unknowingly steps on them, it can be really dangerous. So guy and gals, if you follow these tips you can thoroughly enjoy your day and you can turn that day into a happy festive day.

My very own crossbow

I had gone over to Nikil’s house yesterday for his birthday party and when I was playing there, I saw that he had crossbows, but as I had not seen one, I did not know how to play. As many of us in the gang did not know the game, Nikil taught us the game and we had a wonderful time there and I thought it was the best birthday party I had ever attended in my lifetime, as I had a gala time there laughing and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and decided I was going to ask my dad to purchase one for me.

When I went home and told my father that I wanted crossbow, at first he was very surprised. Then a great idea struck him, he browsed the net for me and found this excellent site which gave ample information on how to make your own crossbow and my father was also pleased that he found this site because he did not have to spend money to buy them for me. He made the crossbows and I showed them to my friends and from then onwards, I make my own stuff and my friends and I had lots of fun playing this game.
